Our presenters
Helen Chatterton
Helen was born in Bury, Lancashire into a textile based family in a textile town. Her Scottish mother taught her to knit and a lifetime love of fabrics and yarn was born.
She studied Classics at Liverpool University and on graduating took a secretarial course, then moved to London where she married. In 1986 Helen and her husband returned to Liverpool, and after having two children she completed her City and Guild Part II Creative Studies in Knitwear at Huddersfield Technical College, commuting once a week from Liverpool.
Whilst at Huddersfield, in addition to the knitwear aspect, and sponsored by Rowan Yarns, her tutor, Bradford-based textile and costume artist Christine Hughes encouraged her to experiment with textile media. Helen started working with velvet and developed samples for cushions and throws. After commissions from family and friends she formed the company Perfection of Production and has a growing presence in high quality shops and galleries.
She continues to knit and teach knitting and has attended a course run by Shetland College where she specialised in Fair Isle Knitting.
